7mm Vehicle Sound Deadening and Thermal Insulation

Improve comfort inside your van, campervan, motorhome, car or commercial vehicle with DS Thermal 7mm Sound Deadening & Insulation Roll. This self-adhesive, layered material combines vibration control with a closed-cell thermal insulation surface, helping reduce panel resonance, airborne road noise and heat transfer.

The 7mm overall construction provides more insulation depth than the thinner 5mm option while remaining flexible enough for many vehicle panels. It is particularly useful where you want a practical balance between acoustic performance, thermal comfort and available installation space.

Key Benefits

  • 7mm overall sound-deadening and insulation construction
  • Helps reduce vibration, panel resonance and airborne road noise
  • Closed-cell foam surface helps reduce heat transfer
  • Self-adhesive backing for straightforward installation
  • Flexible material for suitable curved and shaped vehicle panels
  • Moisture-resistant closed-cell insulation layer
  • Suitable behind carpet lining, plywood panels and interior trim
  • Suitable for DIY converters and professional installers

Suitable Applications

DS Thermal 7mm can be used on suitable clean, dry interior vehicle surfaces, including:

  • Van and campervan side panels
  • Roof panels
  • Doors and tailgates
  • Wheel arches
  • Bulkheads
  • Floors where the final build-up allows
  • Cars, 4x4s, motorhomes, horseboxes and commercial vehicles

Always keep drainage holes, wiring, fixings, airbags, seatbelt systems and moving components clear.

Which Thickness Should You Choose?

Product Best suited to
DS Thermal 5mm Tighter spaces, doors, roofs and lighter interior build-ups
DS Thermal 7mm General van and campervan applications where extra insulation depth is useful
DS Thermal Pro 10mm Projects with sufficient space where a thicker acoustic and thermal layer is preferred

Available space, final trim depth and the shape of each panel should determine the best thickness for your installation.

Recommended Installation

  1. Remove dust, grease, loose material and contamination from the installation surface. Use a suitable preparation product such as DeadSound Prep Spray.
  2. Measure the panel and cut the roll to shape before removing the release liner.
  3. Peel back part of the liner and position the material carefully.
  4. Apply gradually, avoiding trapped air and unnecessary stretching.
  5. Press the material firmly with an installation roller, paying attention to edges and shaped areas.
  6. Seal appropriate joints using aluminium foil tape where required by the installation.
  7. Complete the build with 4-way stretch carpet lining, plywood panels or vehicle trim.

Fit only to suitable interior surfaces and test a small area before completing the full installation.

Build a Complete Insulation System

For deeper cavities and maximum use of available space, combine DS Thermal 7mm with Thermal Fleece recycled-bottle insulation. For vehicle-specific material quantities, see the DeadSound vehicle kits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does DS Thermal 7mm reduce road noise?

It helps reduce vibration, panel resonance and airborne noise. Results depend on the vehicle, installation area, coverage and the rest of the interior build.

Is it suitable for campervans?

Yes. It is designed for vans, campervans, motorhomes and other vehicle interiors where acoustic and thermal improvement is required.

Does it need additional adhesive?

No additional adhesive is normally required because the product has a self-adhesive backing. The surface must be clean, dry and properly prepared.

Can it be fitted beneath carpet lining?

Yes, provided the finished build-up allows enough space and the carpet or trim is installed using a suitable method.

Can it be used on roofs and floors?

It can be used on suitable roof and floor areas where the material is properly supported and the final trim, flooring and fixings allow for its thickness.

Does it stop condensation?

It can reduce direct contact between warm interior air and cold metal, but no single product guarantees that condensation will be eliminated. Good surface coverage, sealed joints, ventilation and the complete insulation build all matter.

Should I choose 5mm, 7mm or 10mm?

Choose 5mm where space is limited, 7mm for a balanced general-purpose installation, and 10mm where additional depth is available and a thicker layer is preferred.
